Court Adjourned. The Internet Stayed Seated.
The Celebration Mimosas Were Short Lived.
Just 24 hours after the charges against Maddie Eastman were dismissed, they were reissued. Funny how fast things move when the public refuses to shut up.
According to the Lawrence District Court, the dismissal was “without prejudice,” which essentially translates to: not so fast. The animal cruelty charges connected to the beating of two German Shepherds, Lilo and Gus, are officially back on the table.
And honestly? The reaction online says everything.
Because while certain corners of the dog world were already preparing their “she beat the allegations 🥂” victory laps, the internet collectively looked around like… are we seriously doing this? Over that video?
This is exactly why people continue documenting, reposting, discussing, and archiving situations like these. Not because anyone thinks the legal system moves quickly. Not because anyone believes accountability magically appears overnight. But because silence is usually what allows these stories to disappear in the first place.
The dog industry has a short memory when people benefit from forgetting.
A few vague statements. A couple weeks offline. Maybe a rebrand. Then suddenly everyone pretends they never saw anything at all. New clients walk in completely unaware while the people who do know stay quiet because speaking up is “drama.”
But the internet is stubborn. Screenshots are stubborn. Public outrage is stubborn.
So no, this story probably is not going away anytime soon. And judging by the response to the refiled charges, a lot of people seem perfectly fine with that.
Because whether people like it or not, when someone Googles a name, these conversations deserve to exist right alongside it.
